Wrestling
Whoever controls where the fight happens, controls the fight. Takedowns, sprawls, scrambles and top position — the hardest hour on our timetable.
The skill that
decides everything
Wrestling is the only discipline that dictates whether a fight stays standing or goes to the floor. It is the reason a good wrestler can fight a striker on their own terms, and a grappler can get the fight where they want it.
Position first
Stance, level change, penetration step. Before you learn to finish a takedown you learn how to stand so one cannot be done to you.
Chains, not moves
Single leg into a high crotch into a body lock. Real wrestling is a sequence of responses, not one technique you hope lands.
Conditioning as a by-product
Nobody finishes a wrestling round fresh. The engine you build here carries into every other class you take.
Tue & Thu
The bridge between striking and the ground
Wrestling is the connective tissue of this gym. It is what lets a kickboxer stay standing, and what lets a jiu-jitsu player get on top in the first place.
- Feeds straight into MMA on Monday and Tuesday
- Pairs with no-gi jiu-jitsu almost seamlessly
- No wrestling background needed — most of our class had none
- Included in the same $90 fortnightly membership as everything else
Wrestling this week
Tuesday
7:00pm
Wrestling — followed by BJJ at 8:00pm if you want a double.
Thursday
7:00pm
Wrestling — Boxing runs at the same time if you would rather strike.
Before you start
Not for your first few sessions — bare feet on the mats is fine. If you stick with it, a cheap pair of wrestling shoes makes a real difference to your footwork and protects your toes in scrambles.
You learn how to fall before you learn how to be taken down — breakfalls are part of every warm-up. Takedowns are drilled at controlled speed with a partner who is working with you, not against you. The mats are thick for exactly this reason.
Wrestling is genuinely the most demanding class we run, so it is a fair concern. You are welcome to sit a round out any time — everyone does at some point. Plenty of members build a base in kickboxing first and come to wrestling a couple of months later.
No. The overwhelming majority of the class never competes and never intends to. If you do want to, the pathway is there and we will prepare you properly — but it is entirely your call.
